1 | Import Permit requirement for Pesticides | An import permit is required by any individual wishing to import any pesticide into Jamaica. The permit must be acquired prior to the importation of the product(s)/chemical(s). Permits are issued by the Pesticides Control Authority in keeping with the Pesticides Control Authority. | Permit Requirement | Pesticides Control Authority | No person shall manufacture, import, advertise or sell any pesticide unless such pesticide is registered in the prescribed manner. | The Pesticides Act | 9999-09-09 | Good |
2 | License to sell Restricted Pesticides | A person desirous of selling a restricted pesticide shall make an application to the Pesticides Control Authority by completing application Form 7 (Section 5 of Form 7must be completed after inspection) | Licensing Requirement | Pesticides Control Authority | If all the requirements are met applicant must make payment of $7,000.00 to the PCA. The Licence is valid for three (3) years. Cheques must be made payable to Pesticides Control Authority | The Pesticides Act | 9999-09-09 | Good |
3 | Labeling Requirement for Pesticides | Previously, the label standard required that the font size should not be less than 2mm. The revision was considered necessary as most of the pesticides were being imported from the United States where the font size for small packages was smaller than that required for large packages. This reduction in font size is therefore expected to facilitate registration of imported pesticides, especially those in small package size thereby reducing the need for repackaging of some products. | Labelling Requirement | Pesticides Control Authority | In December 2001, the standards for pesticide labels was amended | The Pesticides Act | 9999-09-09 | Good |
