Consumers are being urged to compare the odometer readings of the used vehicles they wish to purchase with those on the Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) Certificates issued by Autoterminal Japan (ATJ), which is the official Preshipment Inspection agent of the Government of Jamaica (GoJ). ATJ carries out inspections of used motor vehicles prior to shipment to guarantee compliance with the 2014 GoJ Motor Vehicle Import Policy.

These inspections are designed to protect the public by ensuring that used vehicles are acceptable in terms of key characteristics such as age and mileage being accurately documented at the time of purchase. As a result of transportation from the wharves, there should be only a minor discrepancy between a vehicle’s odometer reading and that recorded on the PSI certificate,
How to access verified odometer readings?

Used motor vehicle purchasers who suspect that their odometer readings may be inaccurate should lodge their complaints with the Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC) via complaints@cac.gov.jm.
