The Trade Administrator/CEO of The Trade Board Limited (TBL), Douglas Webster, is advising importers of motor vehicles and specific heavy-duty equipment that section 6.0 of the 2014 Motor vehicle import policy - age at importation - has been amended, effective immediately.

Webster explains that the change, which will broaden accessibility to motor vehicles and in the process facilitate greater business/commercial activity, results in new age limits ranging from six (6) years for cars up to thirty (30) years for commercial vehicles (see table on page 2).  For example, the age limit for motor cars and station wagons has increased from 5 years to 6 years. As such, come 2020, dealers and individuals can still import 2014 sedans and station wagons. 

The limit for small trucks (unladen weight 1,501 kg – 3,000 kg), panel vans and window vans has increased from 6 years to 10 years. Hence, dealers and individuals can now import 2009 small trucks, panel vans and window vans. 

Meanwhile, Director, Licensing, Certification & Enforcement Clifford Hall indicated that the new age limits will be welcomed by motor vehicle dealers and individuals.
