Note

1

. Contact the BSJ at info@bsj.org.jm to acquire the standard(s) relevant to the product being imported. You may also contact Rayon Johnson at rjohnson@bsj.org.jm
2

If importers do not have their product tested prior to shipment they will have their products held on arrival until samples have been taken and tested.

Process Steps

Step 1

submit samples of each model/type for testing/assessment to the BSJ through the NCRA‘s Standards Compliance Department for verification of compliance.

if possible email quality/test certificates from an accredited laboratory and inspection certificates from an accredited inspection body for the respective products 10 days in advance of the product leaving the country of export to standardscompliance@ncra.org.jm

Step 2

If the samples which were submitted for testing satisfy the necessary requirements, notify the Standards Compliance Department of your intention to import in writing to standardscompliance@ncra.org.jm

Step 3

A pre-shipment compliance certificate will be issued if these test certificates or samples are compliant with the relevant standards

Step 4

If the product fails to meet the requirements, arrange a meeting with the Standards Compliance Department to determine if and how the manufacturer/supplier of these products can bring these products into compliance
Step 5 Importers with a pre-shipment compliance certificate/approval should contact the Standards Compliance Department of the NCRA 24 - 48 hours before the arrival of the shipment into Jamaica to arrange inspection of the consignment
Step 6

Products which have been subject to pre-shipment testing will be released immediately upon verification at import. Any different models/types of products found in the consignment during inspection will be detained and held for conformance testing

Step7

If the test results are found to be satisfactory then:-

the products will be released after the fines have been paid. This release will be done electronically via ASYCUDA. Therefore, it is advantageous to each importer to obtain pre-shipment certificates so there can be ―ease of doing business at Jamaican ports of entry.

Step 8

. If test results are unsatisfactory then:-

the products cannot be rehabilitated, the product(s) will be disposed or allowed to be re-exported after the fines are paid; therefore it is incumbent on the importers to submit samples before commercial shipments arrive.
