Process Steps

Step 1 |
Contact the NCRA at info@ncra.org.jm to acquire the standard(s) relevant to the product being imported. |

Step 2 |
Familiarise yourself and your supplier/manufacturer with the compulsory product specifications that must be met. | |
|
Step 3 |
Submit samples of each product/model/type for testing/assessment to the NCRA for verification of compliance or provide test results (according to the respective standard(s)) from an accredited laboratory for the respective products 10 days in advance of the product leaving the country of export. | |

Step 4 |
If the samples which were submitted for testing satisfy the necessary requirements, notify the NCRA of your intention to import in writing stating the estimated annual importation and method of quality control of the commodity, along with the warehouse address(es) to be used by the importer. | |
| Step 5 | A pre-shipment clearance will be issued if these test certificates or samples are compliant with the relevant standards. | |
| Step 6 | If the product fails to meet the requirements, arrange a meeting with the NCRA to determine if and how the products can be rehabilitated. | |
| Step 7 |
Give 24 - 48 hours prior notice before the arrival of the shipment in Jamaica by contacting the NCRA to arrange inspection of the consignment. |

| Step 8 |
If different models/types of products are found in the consignment, the products will be detained and held for conformance testing. |
|
| Step 9 |
If the test results are found to be satisfactory, the products will be released after the fines have been paid.
|
|
| Step 10 |
If test results are unsatisfactory, and the products cannot be rehabilitated, the product(s) will be disposed or allowed to be re-exported after the fines are paid. |
